Narrative Description

         SPECIALTY MINERALS INC. (SMI) with Head Office based at Highland Ave., Bethlehem, PA 18017, U.S.A., through competitive bidding has commissioned DEC to provide Detailed Design and PMCS Services for this project. The primary purpose of the project is for the PCC Plant to increase by 50% the PCC product generation by adding more facilities and equipment and inter-connecting it with the Plant’s existing process system.

Services Description

The services included the following works:
DETAILED DESIGN
•Civil, Structural and Architectural (CSA)
- Design of elevated steel man walkway from SMI building to existing Carbonator platform.
-Design of steel platform including access stairs for additional new Carbonator tank.
-Design of foundations for new additional water cooling tower, Seed Tank and Spencer Compressor Motor base foundation.
-Design for structural strengthening of existing Carbonator steel platform.
-Architectural design of SMI Plant building components affected by the expansion works.
•Mechanical Process System and Piping Design
-Design of additional mechanical process system including all tie-ins with the Plant existing process systems. 
-Design of mechanical process piping system that includes piping for carbonator tanks, seed tanks, water cooling towers and compressors pipe lines.
•Electrical and Instrument Systems
-Design of all electrical and instrument engineering required for the Plant’s expanded process.
-Design of process control engineering of the Plant including writing of the process control codes, specifications of the process control system and design of I/O cabinets.
•Procurement Services for Local equipment and materials
PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND CONSTRUCTION SUPERVISION SERVICES (PMCS)
The PMCS provided by the project covered Contractor’s complete construction / installation commissioning of the project that includes the following:
•Civil, Structural and Architectural (CSA)
-Setting out of Site Expansion works
-Structural strengthening of existing Carbonator Tank’s existing steel platform
-Structural works related for the installation of additional Carbonator Tank and Seed Tank
- Architectural and structural works related to the installation of additional new Spencer Pump
-Architectural and structural works related to the installation of additional new Water Cooling Tower.
•Process Mechanical, Electrical and Instrument  Works
The works include furnishing of all labours, materials, appliances, superintendence and services required to construct, install all additional mechanical process components and systems to complete and integrate  with the Plant existing process systems.
