Feasibility Study and Detailed Design for Construction of Coastal Port at Thammalang

Narrative Description

Feasibility Study
Due to its location in the coast of Andaman sea, which leads to international water, the Satun Province is identified to have sufficient potentials for tourism and maritime transportation.  With this basic concept, and in conformity with the Five Southern Provinces Development Plan, construction of the Tammalang Port at the mouth of Khlong Tammalang is proposed.  The principal environmental impact of the project is increase of water turbidity due to construction activities, and due to port effluent during operation.  A mathematical model is developed using MIKE-21 to analyze the hydrodynamics and turbidity dispersion in the vicinity of the port area.  The model is calibrated using the observed tidal level and current at elected locations in the modeling area.

Detailed Design
The Harbour Department of Thailand assigned the project of detail design for the construction of Tammalang Port in Satun Province, to the consulting firm, SEATEC for a study .The Tammalang Port facilities include 1 multipurpose port, 2 international tourism ferry piers, a domestic tourism ferry pier, a small boat mooring, a waiting vessels jetty, a tourism and government service centers building, carpark, a Regional Harbour Master Office of Satun, a Talayban Ranger Station, officer residence houses. All facilities are situated in an 18 rai land closing to Tammalang river mouth.

Services Description

Project feasibility study and detailed design the works as follow :
Feasibility Study
•Analysis of the existing conditions and future trends of environmental resources values in the project area;
•To study the impacts due to project components, operation plans and activities, in the vicinity of port;
•Assessment of the effects of project development on environmental resources and values;
•Mathematical modeling of dispersion of turbidity to assess the impacts due to dredging and waste disposal activities; and
•Proposal of mitigation measures to minimize impacts of the project on environmental resources and values.

Detailed Design
The scope of the services included the reviewing available project related study, collecting engineering data and environmental data, designing all engineering structure, determining the environmental protection methodology, estimating estimating both construction material and labour costs, scheduling the construction procedures. Analyzing financial aspect.
