Study and Detailed Design of Breakwaters for Improvement of Water Quality and Monitoring of Environmental Conditions, Kolok Rivermount Improvement Project

Narrative Description

This project is the project coming from the study results of the study of environmental impact for improving Kolok River which recommended creating an additional permanent opening in the surrounding of Tak Bai Peninsula and enlarging narrow Tak Bai Peninsula opening where it is thin and narrow. It also proposed a plan for monitoring and development of the environment quality. The objectives of the project include:
1. Study and survey design for Groynes to improve water quality in the Tal Bai River.
2. Study and survey design to enhance the stability of the Tak Bai Peninsula.
3. Monitor and develop environmental quality.

Services Description

Consultancy Services of Study and Design consisting of:
•Study and Design of Breakwater: the main objective is cutting open Tak Bai  Peninsula connecting Bai River to the sea to improve water quality. The study in this case focuses on the hydraulic engineering, and coastal engineering using mathematical models to specify profile size and appropriate position of the openings by making breakwater design according to the coastal structural design methods.
•Study and survey design for enhancing the stability of the Tak Bai Peninsula : It is expected that the construction of 30 sand traps on the Tak Bai Peninsula will have an impact on the coastal changes especially in areas where the distance between each pair groin is too wide. Therefore, it is necessary to study and analyze with a mathematical model to find the appropriate model and the right approach enhancing the stability of Tak Bai Peninsula permanently and reduce the damage caused by coastal erosion effectively.
•Monitoring and developing the quality of the environment: The implementation of the scope of works in report for environmental impact protection, monitoring and environmental quality development plan of Ko Lok River improvement projects is the monitoring of the environment in terms of water quality, aquatic ecology, erosion and sedimentation, fisheries and aquaculture and socio - economics during project construction In order to monitor the change of environmental resources that may be affected due to the project developments during construction phase. To consider the environmental available resources being monitored will change in the trend becoming worsen over the original or not and evaluate measures for environmental impact protection and mitigation are adequate or not, the monitoring of water quality and aquatic ecology will be conducted at 15 stations in the surrounding of Ko-Lok River and tributaries of Tak Bai River and coastal areas.
